When it comes to relationships, Remy doesn't mess around. After all, she's learned all there is to know from her mother, who's currently working on husband number five. But there's something about Dexter that seems to defy all of Remy's rules. He certainly doesn't seem like Mr. Right. For some reason, however, Remy just can't seem to shake him. Could it be that Remy's starting to understand what those love songs are all about?

This weeks Summer of Sarah Dessen book is This Lullaby! I just adore this one!

My Thoughts:

I feel like I say this about every Sarah Dessen book but This Lullaby is one of my very favorites! I adore Remy and Dexter and all of Truth Squad. Here are some of my favorite things:

  • The music aspect: Remy’s father was a musician who died when Remy was young. Before he died, he wrote a song for her that went on to be a hit. Due to a variety of factors Remy can’t stand the song and has sworn to stay away from musicians. Of course Dexter is a musician, and of course he wants to get to know Remy. I loved this!
  • Truth Squad: Dexter is a member of a struggling band in town for the summer. I just loved all the members of Truth Squad and seeing how they interact. The scenes that take place at the band house or when the members are interacting were some of my very favorites. I loved the inside jokes and the plans they make.
  • Friendships: Like Dexter has Truth Squad, Remy has a core group of three girls she is close to. I really liked that the story deals with friendships and the challenges there as well as romantic relationships. I really loved these girls!
  • Connections: I believe this is the first book where we start seeing something from a previous book! John Miller, one of Dexter’s band mates, works with Scarlett from Someone Like You and has a huge crush on her! We also are introduced to Spinnerbait (Hate Spinnerbait!), Bendo, Barbara Starr and more.
  • Family: Remy’s family is going through a lot of changes. Her mother gets re-married (again) at the beginning of the book, her brother gets engaged, and Remy is dealing with all of this. In addition, Remy has some family related things that she needs to work through. I liked the way all this was presented and dealt with.

Looking over that list it’s clear that the relationships in this book stand out to me. Sarah Dessen is a master at exploring all different types and I just can’t get enough. Don’t miss This Lullaby! It’s a perfect summer read.
