The romantic story of a girl who gets plucked from obscurity to star in the next major feature film franchise based on a book and the ensuing love triangles she gets entangled in on—-and off screen.

Meet Paige Townsen, Rainer Devon, and Jordan Wilder…

When Paige Townsen, a young unknown, gets cast in the movie adaptation of a blockbuster book series, her life changes practically overnight. Within a month, Paige has traded the quiet streets of her hometown for a crowded movie set on the shores of Maui, and is spending quality time with her co-star Rainer Devon, one of People’s Sexiest Men Alive. But when troubled star Jordan Wilder lands the role of the other point in the movie’s famous love triangle, Paige’s crazy new life gets even crazier.

In this coming-of-age romance inspired by the kind of celeb hookups that get clever nicknames and a million page views, Paige must figure out who she is – and who she wants – while the whole world watches.

My Thoughts:

Back in May I had the privilege of attending a blogger breakfast at Little, Brown during BEA. Little, Brown publishes some of my very favorite authors (Holly Black! A.S. King!) so I was excited to see what they had in store for us. Famous in Love was one of the books that I didn’t know much about. After the event, I knew I had to read it for a couple reasons. First, it just sounded fun. And more importantly, we were told about Locked. In Famous in Love the main character is starring in a book to movie translation of a fictional blockbuster (a la Twilight) called Locked. Using the name of the fictional author in Famous in Love, Rebecca Serle actually wrote a Locked novella! Little, Brown published it in August (see my review here) but didn’t reveal that it was actually Rebecca until September (read the Publishers Weekly article.) This had me really intrigued so of course I had to read them both.

Famous in Love by Rebecca Serle is a fun, fictional “behind the scenes” look at life filming a hollywood blockbuster. Paige’s dream came true when she landed the starring role in Locked but filming isn’t exactly what she expected. I’ve never dreamed of being an actress (fame is not at all appealing to me!) but I still wondered what it might be like to work on a movie. I really enjoyed this aspect of the story. The shooting schedule, Paige’s nervousness, the relationships between the actors, it was all interesting to me. Plus, Paige is dealing with being away from friends and family for the first time. I could so relate to that aspect!

Now, I know some people are very anti-love triangle. I am not one of those people! There is a love triangle between the characters in Locked that spills over into the characters in Famous in Love. For most of the book I had no problem with this! In fact, I kind of liked it! We got to know a lot more about the characters through it. I did, however, have a problem with it at the end. However, since this is the first of three books I’m hoping my concerns will be addressed in the future. (I cannot share said concerns as they are spoilery!)

Overall, I really enjoyed Famous in Love by Rebecca Serle.  What an enjoyable way to get a glimpse into the lives of (fictional!)  young Hollywood!
