About the Book: The Scarlet Letter meets Minority Report in bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s chilling new novel about a teenage girl who is ostracized when her genetic test proves she’s destined to become a murderer.

When Davy Hamilton’s tests come back positive for Homicidal Tendency Syndrome (HTS)-aka the kill gene-she loses everything. Her boyfriend ditches her, her parents are scared of her, and she can forget about her bright future at Juilliard. Davy doesn’t feel any different, but genes don’t lie. One day she will kill someone.

Only Sean, a fellow HTS carrier, can relate to her new life. Davy wants to trust him; maybe he’s not as dangerous as he seems. Or maybe Davy is just as deadly.

The first in a two-book series, Uninvited tackles intriguing questions about free will, identity, and human nature. Steeped in New York Times bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s trademark mix of gripping action and breathless romance, this suspenseful tale is perfect for fans of James Patterson, Michelle Hodkin, and Lisa McMann.

My Thoughts: Uninvited is a book I have been looking forward to reading for some time. I’ve loved all of Sophie Jordan’s other books so I’m always anxiously awaiting more from her! As usual, my faith was not misplaced!

In Uninvited we meet Davy. She’s your typical teen girl (who happens to be a musical prodigy!) She’s a good daughter, student, girlfriend, etc… But then. Oh yes, but then. Davy is identified as having “the kill gene” or Homicidal Tendency Syndrome (HTS.) This is a gene scientists have identified as a likely cause for murder. Davy doesn’t want to kill anyone, at least, she doesn’t think she does! Still, her life is turned upside down by her diagnosis.

This was actually my favorite part of the story. I know that sounds heartless but I was so interested in seeing how Davy’s world changed. Imagine what it would be like to know someone has a gene that has been identified as a likely indicator of murder. They’ve done nothing wrong. Yet. What do you do? It was so interesting to see the ideas that Sophie Jordan came up with.

And the romance! Now, this is the first in a two-book series so it’s not all played out, but it wouldn’t be a Sophie Jordan book without a hint of romance. I actually really enjoyed that romance wasn’t the focus in Uninvited. Davy’s got a lot on her plate! She had the next few years of her life all planned out and it’s been yanked away in an instant. Furthermore, HTS carriers terrify her. And now she’s one of them. There is so much going on in her life!

Uninvited brought up a lot of questions that I can’t wait to find the answers to. I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next book… and not just because it’s Sophie Jordan!

About the Author: Sophie Jordan grew up in the Texas hill country where she wove fantasies of dragons, warriors, and princesses. A former high school English teacher, she’s also the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Avon historical romances. She now lives in Houston with her family. When she’s not writing, she spends her time overloading on caffeine (lattes and Diet cherry Coke preferred), talking plotlines with anyone who will listen (including her kids), and cramming her DVR with true-crime and reality-TV shows. Sophie also writes paranormal romances under the name Sharie Kohler.
