About the Book: The hotly-anticipated sequel to the New York Times bestsellerThe Selection.

Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Illea.

America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.

Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending. My Thoughts: Gah! These books! They suck me right in and I get caught up in the story and I just can’t stop reading! But also? They drive me crazy!! Like, crazy in a good way. In an I-need-to-know-right-now way! And also a what-the-heck-are-you-doing type way. You know what I mean, right? Where you’re sure you know better than the character and they are clearly making all the wrong choices! But then you remember that they’re 17 and in the midst of some pretty emotionally crazy things and you think about how 17 year old you would have dealt and then thank the stars you’re not the character? Also, it makes you write/think in really crazy run on sentences with poor punctuation.

So, yeah. There was that. Still, I really enjoyed getting to know the remaining girls a bit better. Maxon and Aspen too! I am still totally a Maxon fan but can understand America’s hesitations. Also, one of my favorite parts of this story was learning more about the history of Illea… and not just what everyone has been told. I am such a geek like that. I love all history, even the fictional variety.

The Selection is one of the most popular books in my LMC and I have a whole long list of girls waiting to borrow my copy of The Elite. Thankfully, they won’t be disappointed with the story! It really is great fun 🙂

Me with Kiera the day The Elite debuted at #1 on the NYT Bestseller list! Go Kiera!
