About the Book: Gwen’s life has been a roller-coaster since she discovered she was the Ruby, the final member of the secret time-traveling Circle of Twelve. In between searching through history for the other time-travelers and asking for a bit of their blood (gross!), she’s been trying to figure out what all the mysteries and prophecies surrounding the Circle really mean.

At least Gwen has plenty of help. Her best friend Lesley follows every lead diligently on the Internet. James the ghost teaches Gwen how to fit in at an eighteenth century party. And Xemerius, the gargoyle demon who has been following Gwen since he caught her kissing Gideon in a church, offers advice on everything. Oh, yes. And of course there is Gideon, the Diamond. One minute he’s very warm indeed; the next he’s freezing cold. Gwen’s not sure what’s going on there, but she’s pretty much destined to find out. (goodreads)

My Thoughts: Wow, how could I have forgotten how very much I love Gwen and these books? Love, love, love, love, love. And the audiobook? So well done. The narration was perfect for Gwen and her story.

I know I said this in my review of Ruby Red but I think one of my favorite aspects of this series is the humor. With all the secrets, adventure, and historical aspects I just didn’t expect it to be funny. The humor seemed like such a treat. Gwen’s inner dialogue and the ways in which she interacts with the various characters kept me smiling. She’s the kind of girl I would have wanted to be friends with!

Also, secret societies, a prophecy, and a time travel gene? Yes, please! I loved learning more about the Circle of Twelve and Gwen’s place in it. There are so many secrets and questions surrounding what it all means. I can’t wait to dive in to Emerald Green to find out more!

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Gideon and the romance. Poor Gwen. As if her life isn’t confusing enough (what with finding out she is part of this whole time travel deal) she is partnered with a gorgeous but maddening boy! I loved the tension and banter that this brought up. And Gwen’s best friend Leslie! And the ghosts that Gwen can see! And her great aunt! Basically, I just loved all the characters.

My only complaint? The ending! AHHHH! I was listening to the audiobook on my phone so I had no idea how close to the end it was. When the scene ended and it switched to the epilogue I may have screamed, “WHAT?!?! Nooooooooo!” So glad I have Emerald Green on hand.

If you’ve not read Ruby Red do yourself a favor and pick it up as soon as possible! This is one of my very favorite series.
