About the Book: The Goblin Market has always been the center of Sin’s world. But now the Market is at war with the magicians, and Sin’s place is in danger. Thrown out of the Market she loves, Sin is thrown together with brothers Nick and Alan—whom she’s always despised.

Alan has been marked by a magician and is being tortured so that the magicians can get to Nick. As Sin watches Alan struggle to protect the demon brother he loves, she begins to see him in a new light—but she and Mae are locked in a fierce rivalry over who will inherit the leadership of the Goblin Market, and a decisive battle with the Aventurine Circle is looming. Mae’s brother, Jamie, is holed up with the magicians, his loyalties in question. And Nick—well, who knows what a demon might do to save his brother? How far will Nick go to save Alan—and what will it cost them all?

My Thoughts: Let me just start off by saying that I am a total Sarah Rees Brennan fangirl. I adore everything of her’s that I’ve read (this series, all her short stories, and her upcoming novel Unspoken!) Basically I’m going to have to try very hard to not turn this review into rambling sentences about how much I love her writing and how awesome this book is and how you have to read the series right now!!!! You might notice that I am reviewing it months after it was released. I have no idea why I didn’t review it when I first read it. I’ve just finished reading it for the second time so I thought I would share some of the things I loved!

Writing Style: I can’t even begin to express how incredible I find Sarah’s writing. I just love it. Her word choice and phrasing and just everything! It flows so beautifully and begs to be read aloud. I also adore her humor. If you’ve ever seen Sarah’s running commentaries about TV shows on twitter you know what I mean. The woman is hilarious. It transfers to her characters so well. I particularly loved the interactions between Sin and Alan in this one. I was reading it while at the gym. I got many funny looks. “Who is the crazy girl laughing her head off while wheezing on the elliptical machine?!?! She is clearly unwell!”

The World: I adored the setting and world building in this book (well, in all three really!) I mean… modern day England + magic and all kinds of supernatural powers = AWESOME! I can honestly say that I think this may be the only book I’ve read with pipers (think the pied piper!) Also, I want “the market” to be a real place. I just loved learning about the history and how the different groups fit together.

Tough Girls: Oh man…. Sin and Mae. SO MUCH AWESOME!!! These aren’t just girls who are tough on the surface. They are deep down fierce. They are also loyal and loving and imperfectly wonderful. They stand up for themselves and protect those they love. There is a scene where Sin and Mae draw their weapons and stand protectively in front of the boys. I think I read it like ten times. It is one of my very favorite scenes… like, ever.

If you haven’t read The Demon’s Lexicon I highly recommend that you do ASAP! Sarah Rees Brennan is one of my very favorite authors. Her writing style, humor, and awesome characters make her books ones you don’t want to miss!
