About the Book: In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.

With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

My Thoughts: Oh, Cassandra Clare. You just love breaking my heart and then making me wait for the next book don’t you? I should have stuck by the rule I instituted in my review of Clockwork Angel. The “never read any of Cassandra Clare’s books unless the ENTIRE SERIES has been released” rule. Who am I kidding?!? I could never pull that off! I just love her books so hard!! And this one? It broke me and I loved every minute of it! It’s my very favorite of Cassandra’s books. Hands down.

Now, explaining my love for this book, the characters, the world, and so on and so forth without being spoilery would be too difficult and wouldn’t be sufficient. There is just too much to discuss! Personally I hate it when a review gives away some piece of information. I feel cheated. I don’t want to do that to you so I’m going to highlight the random things I loved. If you’ve not read Clockwork Angel there may be some spoilers for that book but not for Clockwork Prince

Random Things I Loved:
*Another beautiful boy on the cover.
*The prologue… it’s eery and intriguing. It totally set the tone and brought me back in to the world I left when I finished Clockwork Angel.
*Information from Clockwork Angel was worked in as reminders without being a recap. There were certain bits of information that were mentioned casually. I couldn’t remember if we knew it in CA or it was new. I suspect some of both. I liked it either way.
*CHAPTER TITLES! I have so much love for these. They always feel like a bonus. The ARC didn’t have all of them listed so you can be sure that I’ll be cracking open my finished copy as soon as it arrives to check them all out.
*The interactions between Will and Jessamine. And Will and Tessa. And Will and Jem. And Jem and Tessa. And…. well, you get the picture!
*More Charlotte and Henry!!! Yay!!! I wanted to know more about them and their history in CA. Super excited to get that in CP.
*KISSING SCENES!!!! Ohmystars! The kissing scenes. Plural! Sexy! Awesome! I may have tabbed them a la Anna so I can read them again and again.
*Tessa’s emotional turmoil. She must feel simply awful… to care so much about Will even though he has told her she is unimportant (In CA. Like I said… no CP spoilers!) How much deeper her anger at him must be because of the love she can’t seem to help! Apparently something is wrong with me. I loved it.
*Jem and Will’s friendship. Yay for boys who care about each other and don’t feel the need to hide it!
*The snark. Oh so much lovely snark!
*Will. See above point. Actually, most of the other points can be boiled down to him too. Jem is adorable but I love fictional boys who would really be bad for me!
*More Magnus, more better.
*Inner turmoil is revealed and secrets are told!
*The descriptions of the settings. The characters travel a bit more so we get to see some new places 🙂 LOVE the locations and the time period!
*The actual history that is worked in to the Shadowhunter world.
*The use of the word “persiflage!” Look it up. I did. I have a new favorite word.
*The fact that I will soon be able drool over listen to Ed Westwick read the lovely words Cassandra Clare wrote.

Okay, I’m stopping there because I could go on and on but you really just need to read it. Or listen to it because, as I said, Ed Westwick
